Ever looked at your vintage, pre-58 windscreen as the sunlight dawns...and seen the round, transparent circle in front of the steering wheel...and wondered why?
Last night I met LOBO, and could finally give him a well deserved Sechs volt-mug. He promised to send us a nice picture. LOBO aka Nicolai is a young man with the right interests in life. This picture shows his higly beloved Judson-'54 and some lovely girls. This is actually a normal day in LOBO`s life. Driving his oval and spending time with nice company. (Lobo is in the left of this pic - see if you can spot him). LOBO is a very skilled artist and got his own website. He also has a gift in finding good motives for his sketches =)
This time we have something really interesting and rare to show you. After searching high and low - and yes I admit it - even desparatly considered buying a repro decklid, I finally found a original split vert decklid for my longterm project. The decklid has been under my roof for two days now, and both days I just had to take a look at it before rushing to work... Still, I can't yet believe it. What are the odds of finding a split vert decklid in Norway? It has two easy reparable dents, and lots of surface rust. The inner part behind the hinges is the only part that will need some minor welding. Luckily all of the vert-only-parts are in good shape.
Knechtens 52 zwitter has made it to the front page of Vau-Max.de in Germany. This is a website more known to Norwgian watercooler enthusiasts, but as a serious website they found room for a real vintage car as well. The photoshoot took place in the outskirts of Hessisch Oldendorf in the summer of 2009. All photos and text by Igor Vucinic. Our famous Sechs volt mug is almost everywhere. This time its in the hands of Olav Fossmellem in Odalen, Norway. He is working on his split wich is bougt from our good friends Erik and Arnt. The split is in good condition, and will be driveable this summer we belive. We wish Olav the best luck with the restauration and hope to see this split on meetings in the summer of 2010.
It is freeze outside. - 20 degrees. Then its nice to look back at last years big happening. The vintage village at SCC. Schwimming, Kubeling and talking about originality all day long. And low voltage and the correct pices and hottest items of course. Sechs volt did get some new friends they sure will meet again. 
The sechs volt are preparing for a feast to celebrate the new year, and we tried out our new costumes last night. We have great expectations for the new year, and hopefully at least one new project will roll out of the garage this year as well. Then we have set a pace of restoring one car a year. If we keep this up, the market for split beetles in Norway will be destroyed in a few years =) Best wishes for 2010!!!
Here in Norway the VWACM club arrange a winter rally on snow for aircooled VW's. This take place in early january, and the temperature often is below -10 deg celsius. The sechs volt have no car to participate in for the 2010 event, but would not hesitate if we had the car in the picture at hand. We would floor the pedal and hit the narrow snow covered roads... it would bounce nicely against the snow banks =)
Well-known motor journalist and car expert Floyd Clymer travelled through Europe in 1952, visiting most of the motor shows and car manufacturers at the time. While Clymer (who is also known as the editor of "Souping the Volkswagen") visited many factories, we will skip all the boring ones and concentrate on what's important.....
The "hard vintage speed-gang" were toghether last night for some serious talk. The agenda for the meeting was Old speed/Vintage speed. Hot Pizza, cold lemonade, VW-cookies and hot coffe in the countryside in a cowhouse. We had a great time talking, dreaming, laughing and kidding. The most of the possible available items for "souping the Volkswagen" were present; Judson, 356-engine, Express, Dietz, TDE, MAG, Retwish, Abarth (rare!), Italmeccanica 
This "babe" is a true beliver in the Sechs volt tecnologi and she seems to enjoy this late 52 split.
The Norwegian vintage VW club (founded 1966) has an annual prize for "best restoration". On this year's annual meeting our true Sechs volt-friend Erik Sitje was awarded the very sought after prize for his chestnut 52 split. Erik found this car in a forest, and used the next couple of years to restore it. He has told us stories about a tree growing through the wreck when found, and an incredible amount of work and detailing har been put into the project. Erik has a garage filled with several nice VWs, among a beach buggy built for his wife's 39th birthday. He has also been in touch with the 52 Capitan several times, and helped out with his skills at the Sechs Volt Garage. Congratulations!

This was to big show-winners in the early 90`s and mid 90`s. Frode Algrøy with his very nice 58 with a lot of cool period-correct options. Frode still got this car, and some other high standard vintage VW-cars. You can go vistit Frode. One another prizewinner for the same period was Ulf Kaiser in his junglegreen 56 oval. We have not seen this car for a few years, but guess that Kaiser still got it, someone got any other tips about that? We can also mention Mr. Aandal and his 61 and 56 Karmann cab as great prizewinners in Norway. We know of both of this cars today. The 61 is in the West of Norway, and the cab is in its very best hands. Pictures is from Splitboys old album.
The latest Volksworld Magazine is about to reach the newsstands, and this time a fabulous photoshoot and article on the Wiger Coupe is inside. We heard about some "good" pictures beeing taken in Hessisch this summer, and this preview shows exactly how good they were. Congratulations to Øystein and Thomas at Norwegian Hammerworks for a cool article. Can't wait to see it in paper =) 
This months GATEBIL MAGAZINE and BILSPORT got some Sechs volt-stuff. The 52Capitan got a nice picture in the norwegian "GATEBIL", and the Express-engine got one picture in the Swedish "Bilsport" magazine. Sechs volt has been in magazines before, but not to often.

After seeing a mindblowing split convertible last night (not related to this posting at all), it brought back a memory from the past. At some point when Fürsten was tracking down the 51 cab now resting in the sechs volt garage, we asked a hypothetical question among the sechs volt members; How FAR would you go, to get one? Based on a theory that VW is a quite male-dominated hobby, that the male statisticly pulls in the paddles before the females, AND if you were lucky enough to track a split cab down. There would be a fair chance of it being testamented to a spouse (statisticly again). And as we know from experience, NOTHING is for sale. So the real question is; How far beyond "second base" would you go to get the current owners signature on the pinkslip?
