As we have a thing for nostalgia speed parts, some of the OutlaVWs boys are always sniffing around for more more. This time a combined gut-feel among two of the OutlaVWs brought this carburator kit into the garage. We don't know much about it yet, other that it fits like a glove on a 30 Hk (36 Hp) engine. The intake manifolds are marked with the "Abarth" logo, and the aircleaners with "F.I.S.P.A Torino". The carburators seem to be Solex 32 PBIC as far as we can tell. The linkage is missing, but seem to be some kind of "kadron" type. We are aware of the Abarth mufflers available for 30 Hk engines, but have only read somwhere that Abarth submitted tuning parts for VW. So ofcourse we are very interested in any information on this carburator kit, especially any photo or an old ad that can show the linkage.

Norwegian Schwimmwagen test

Here is a movie from an article posted in a norwegian newspaper called Tønsbergs Blad earlier this summer. It shows Sven Almåsbakk testing his 1943 model 166 Schwimmwagen in the water for the first time since 1970, after thousands of hours of restoration. This is according to the article one of four drivable Schwimmwagens in Norway. Here is the rest of the article: http://tb.no/article/20070914/NYHETER/709130059

6V Babe - Edition 5

To make a grey monday in december a little brighter, we welcome 6V girl number five. Although the girl try her best to show off her self and a big-window fifthies car, we are somehow not that tempted. It would take a lot more for us to move across the 57 barriere. She would have looked a lot better in a split, don't you think?

Ultimate adrenalin rush
You often wonder what kind of force can makes us so passionated about these cars. Is it the design? Is it the rarest accessories? Is it restoring them? Is it driving them?
NO, as Brezelfürsten said it, "It's FINDING these cars that makes life worth living"... So when others jumps off a cliff with a parachute, we open another door to an old barn. This is the unreleased footage of Fürsten finding his newest trophy. Can it get any better?
We know there is plenty of excitement out there, so go open a new barn door... It could happen to you too =)

1000 visitors surprise
To give a little pressure on our self to keep up the posting on the blog, we installed a counter on the main site some weeks ago. We can now reveal that someone is working on a new web-product for our blog. This will bring a new dimension to the 6V Blog, and will hopefully be a contribution to make the restoration of a pre 57 beetle easier... We will launch the secrets when the counter reaches 1000 hits =)

Have Oval57 already got his Christmaspresent?
Yesterday I went for a little trip in the mountains here in Buskerud. I think I was lucky with this catch. What do you think? I also got two windscreen with the BIG SEKURIT-logo on. Most of the glass can i offer for SplitBoy. When I travel around like this I always think on my friends (VW-nuts) in the garage.

6V Babe - edition 1

We received some feedback on our blog regarding the content. Some stated there were a complete lack of girls, but otherwise a complete site. We therefore present "6V Babes", pretty enough to get posted, but not so pretty we wouldnt take the car instead... So as a little topping between the regular posts, we give you VW girls... (We can't help that every girl pictured beside a beetle in the fifthies looked like a prostitute)
Girl no 1 looks very pleased with her split beetle, who wouldn't?

Happy birthday to Knechten!
Bolt-on splits and barbeque-splits
In the garage right now we are on VERY different levels. Knechten did put his Zwitter on the pan last night, thanks to the "well-bodied" Fursten and me. He is going on with bolting the chassis to the bodyshell. Lucky man! Knechten can maybe show you a little videoclip?
My dad made a nice "Dolly" for my Capitan. See my blog for mor details!

Demolition Derby
During the 6V Annual meeting, Oval 57s newly purchased slotcar track had to be tested. Of course the cars were split bugs with plastic bodies. In good spirit we tested the track with 6Volt, but had to admit that the cars were moving to slow. After a overheated discussion we cranked the voltage up to twelve, and it was a lot more fun... We hope by going public about this mistake, that others can take some learning. This will of course never happen again from any club member. It's 6V or nothing... (Anonymous writer)

6V Annual Meeting 2007
This Saturday the annual gathering of the 6V OutlaVWs took place in clean surroundings, free from grease and dust. This is the only occasion were the boys come together in decent clothing. After hanging out a whole summer in camping outfits and sleeping among empty beer cans, or working in the garage dirty as german pornstars, it was time to celebrate the season. After an excellent meal, it was time for the official program. A suggestion of changing the clubs name to 12V OutlaVWs were eliminated immediately, and a membership was almost eliminated as well. The conclusion of sticking with 6V one more year was appreciated by the majority.
The activity in the club has been good through out the year, and of course this had to be celebrated as well. A number of trophies were handed over in the following categories:
"Kvikkas" for best racing attitude, "Plateknechten" for best sheet-metal work, "Glamboy" for best(worst) chrome-fetish and "6V Spirit" for best contribution to the 6V image. The "6V Spirit" will be an annual trophy handed out to the member found worthy (and has enough room in his shelf). It's a good thing for society that nerds like us are gathered in controlled forms, and not running loose on the streets. God bless the VW addicted...

PS! We have to thank our great 12V friend "Boblehue" for some awesome trophies this year. We are pretty sure he will come around to cut down on voltage real soon and get a sixvolter...

Double Solex 28's
The detail specialist is now working on his Express Anlagen again. It's a time consuming job, and a lot of details to reproduce. Follow the build up of this rare carburator kit through the winter on Brezelfürstens Blog. He has some aces up his sleeve, so much we can tell...
You can read more about the Express Kit at "Oldspeed.ch" and "Gutefahrt" found under our links.

Heb Song
Found this new hit single by Carsten Reeder on the net today. An amazing tribute to the Hebmüller. A link to Carstens own site is also added. Above is a picture of Carsten and Brezelfürsten dealing "drugs" at Bad Camberg this summer.

Norwegian timetravel

20 years ago theVW scene in Norway was probably in it's prime-time. This was before the internet community ever saw the light of day, and the only influence was through the magazines. The leading magazine covering VW stuff back the was "Right On Magazine" with a mixture of Amcar, bikes, VW's and others. Sitting with a issue from 1988 in my hands I found this ad for tuned VW engines. Kvikk Motor was hot back then, and still are are well known trademark in the norwegian VW scene. The 6V Outlavws are happy to have a Kvikk engine in the club. Some more stuff on the subject to be found under Knechtens Zwitter blog.

The 6V Outlavws cup

When working long evenings and nights in the Outlavw garage, one always need a good cup (or three) of coffee to keep the screwdrivers and wrenches turning. We now proudly present the "6V Outlavw" cup – especially designed for the members. Here we can see Knecthen enjoying a nice cup of hot, leaded, high-octane coffee. We also recommend some welding fumes and grinding dust as aromatizers – it makes a coffee extraordinaire… =)

Say no more!
First official spy-shot

The first official spy-shot of Fürstens new mistress was released today. This 51 Azur mermaid does not bring any shame on the owner. We could walk down the red carpet anyday with this beauty. We have heard so much about this car, and rumours have circulated for quite a while. But giving us just the little-finger will not help us... We want more =)
Winds of change

To cure the winter depression ahead, the new thing among the 6V boys seem to be swapping trophies. In a "swingers" kind of way, the beloved cars are traded inside the workshop these days. To save the next generations, Brezelfürsten is bringing new blood in the garage. All this mess causes the project blogs to change a little bit, so in the near future there will be some changes in the sub-menus. But stay tuned, some spy-shots of the 51 Azur Mermaid may appear...
The garage wishes Oval 57 the best of luck to finnish the 52 El-Capitan. The Old Ambassador will find it's way to the new home in western Norway in a couple of days.

Broken hearts

With broken hearts we have to move on with a open space in the garage. Hopefully we will come over this loss, but the Ambassador will forever be in our hearts =) The situation for keepeing this car in the club was unfornately not present this time. We hope to see the car road-legal some time in the future. Good luck to the new owner, "a great catch"...
Madness

Here is a movieclip of a man with a heavy leadfoot. Driving a car purposebuilt for drag racing in a hillclimb contest on snow covered roads... Simply madness =) But we just love the attitude of JHU... This is music in the ears of a "Hillclimb friendly" garage:

Rarest of the rare

Many items will turn up on www.ebay.com if you search this phrase.
I believe that only a handful of parts on the site actually deserves
to be called "rarest of the rare". Well, let me present to you the
one and only double ribbed split bumper. A rare part I really
think deserves to be called by this phrase. Take a look at Carsten
Reeders page for reference.

End of the road...

After making many organ donations for the garage, the 65' savannah finished the very last jurney today. Hopefully it will be used for GOOD repro parts for our cars when recycled. But it was not a sad goodbye, as this car had it's faults... It was offered out for free on the internet, but no one seemed to be interested in bringing it back to life. After a intimate seremony today, it was put to rest. RIP.

Barndoor on the road
From the archive
Here is a little timetravel back to 1994. Mr. Oval 57 is a young man, and the new owner of a oval window beetle. The clip show the car in an early stage of the restoration. He look kind of proud, doesen't he?

Inspection

Last night the REAL hardcore VW/Porsche guys from Mysen dropped by for a coffe and some waffels. A lot of good stories were shared over the table. Dealing with vintage cars, you cannot get enough details of how it was "back then". Hearing about old racing, engine builds, modifications and all the excperience was quite amazing. I think we all got an idea of how much we have left to excperience if we continue with this hobby. At least we got good feedback on our projects, and that we are heading in the right direction... But, what we consider a whole winters work, these guys would have done in a week. That is what we call "practise make champion" (directly translated from norwegian). Thank you "Porsche", "Gene", "Big Block" and "Notch" for a very nice evening in the garage, and for passing on good knowledge to the next generation =)
What an easy way to kill some hours...

Pimp my ride?

Looking at these pictures you might think MTV has been visiting our garage. But luckily, they would have been shot long before they reached our garage door. This is in fact the handy work of Mr. Brezelfürsten him self. Being "barely legal" he started restoring this 65, and put all of his heart into it. As we can see, the attention to details were spot on, even then. As the boy grew, his heart also grew, and there were room for something else... The fresh 65 was traded for the Sandbeige split he owns today... Not everything was better "back then", sometimes the future has something to offer =)

Back in the day

Last night we arranged a quick lesson in old-fashion body work. We had no teacher, but a written manual and the correct tools. After testing on an old piece of metal, we gave the Old Capitan a treatment. We had always heard the rumors of how difficult and expensive this kind of bodywork is... And we proved the know-hows wrong, it was not all that diffucult, and the result was amazing... More led to be fed to our cars =)
Pictures show the finnish after each step; welded, filled and primered... A thin coat of filler and it's perfect...

"Attitude"
It's not easy to tell what's the right "attitude". But there is something about this car that makes it stand out and reflect much of the visions of the 6V Outlavws. The setup of the car is very correct and makes it one of Norways finest =) A little bittersweet for some of the Outlavws who had their hands on this car and let it go... But with mag-wheels and correct attitude it's found the right home on the other side of the fjord.
SCC 07

The Norwegian late summer meeting on Gardermoen Raceway has really found it's shape. We attended this year as well, and started the weekend off with the traditional Screwdrivers T-Bar-Be-Que. The atmosphere on this event is a lot different from other Scandinavian meetings. Here the cars with attitude is in the centre of attention, and makes it stand out. Thank you to the organizers and Austin for having us over for some burgers =) Keep up the good work...

The last "meal"
Looking scared at the butchers knife, waiting for a ralatively painful death, the 65 ran it's last run on the "track" the other night. Some Outlavws action went down in "Paradise garden" a late night in the middle of the week. The car seemed very happy as it performed like never before.... Both Custom-boys and Vintage-nuts had a huge grin on their face, I wonder why =)
Now it's vital organs are donated to "split" parts... more to come
