Happiness

Luckily we discovered that anger can cure anger. In this case the anger someone exspressed through his Mig welder years ago, was possible to cure with heavy hammering many years later.
The best psycological theraphy for both?? A so called win win situation?? Anyway, we left the garage smiling last night =)

Back on track

After being visited through the autumn and winter by lots of "know how" friends, the poor split wagon has got the death penalty more than once. Fürsten had one too many nightmares after each visit in the garage, and evrything from Hebmuller replicas to placing the car behind the barn has been considered. To prove that this is just a big misunderstanding, Knechten and Fürsten undusted their ultimate tools last night; "Stor vinkelsliper" and "Slegge". To everybodys surprise, this was all the medicine needed to bring the split back to life.
Nothing can compares to the feeling of letting all your anger out on a vintage Volkswagen...

New territory

Last night some of the Original-jugend started working on something they never seen before. Take a close look at the manifolds and you see that these guys are way off base trying to figure out modern VW technology. Having only exsperienced changing oil on a 25 hp engine before, the 1600 DP engine seemed to scare them a little bit. But after stripping down the tinware, and fitting the engine with 25 hp fanhousing and generator, the boys looked more relaxed. More pictures to come of this "wolf in sheep-clothing" engine build.

Oval55`s VW-service

Here is a seldom picture from the garage. Yes, he is a proud member. But did we see him so often?
Yesterday he did some VW-service on his Jungel-green machine. New oil was put into her heart. And best of all, the old 356 engine did start (with help from my battery). Oh, what a lovely sound!

25 HP tuning by Oval57?

Yesterday I finally got my winter-motor-project inside the garage. It is a 25 HP engine for one of my splits. I have desided to sandblast the steel and paint it with powder-coat in Sweden.
I miss some parts on the engine, but I will find them. And, of course, I will have the correct K-manifold on it.
Beside me Knechten and Oval55 was working on their splits or ovals.

Mr. Metalshaper

A new metalshaper is born =) During an afternoon in the workshop, Fürsten handcrafted some nice weldingparts with his bare hands. A detailed picture will follow after another afternoon of shaping. The piece under production is the rear end of the heaterchannel and inner channel. Small things can make a simpel man happy.

Two for the price of one?

Some people can`t get enough. The most of us buy one car at a time, but Oval57 think that will be to less. When he this summer had collected splits, he picked they up one-by-one, with good help from the 6V OutlaVWs. This weekend he was "fed-up". "Let`s bring home two!" he said. And so he did. Today he is the new owner of TWO 1950 model VW bugs. The papers tells that they where imported to Norway as new cars. The cars is of course objects, but the "yellow" is quite nice.

Another pic

Here is the yellow one painted several times....

A barn and a split...

When travelling along the countryside, we always find ourselves looking to the left and right in addition to looking on the road. Could there be a beetle out there behind that small group of trees, or beside that barn...??
Oval55 and Oval57 found this split-window beetle up in the mountains while on the annual grouse hunting trip. Standing beside an abandoned barn, wrapped up in plastic, the unmistakable "brezel" was quite visible because of a hole in the cover..... Of course, we just HAD to take a little look.... :-)

The old gal seemed to have been standing outside in the grass for å very long time - based on the quite severe attacks of rust all around. Lots of parts were missing as well. But that isn't always the point, is it..? It is the dicovery that makes the experience....

Preparing for the winter

The progress on the blog the last month has been slim to none. Thats not because we are doing other stuff than VW (God forbid), but we are preparing our workshop for the winter. And the labour put down there, does not deserve all that attention on a VW blog.
But beeing around the outlavws guys doing physical labour, no one really knows how to keep their mouth shut, and the rigging of the garage alway ends in discussing future dream projects. And by no means is there a better way to spend a mid-week afternoon. Some of us got a Gmund-flu earlier this summer, and it still kicks in from time to time. To show you what causes this illness, a picture is shown... Theres no doubt that a car will roll out of our garage inspired by this picture.

Had to let it go

Because of a rich hunting season of old beetles, our beloved panelvan had to go before the winter. Some of us had no problem in seeing the potensial of this unusual double door, but one can not always have in bag and sack at the same time. But after all, driving 30 hours to collect it, the new owner proves worthy of the van. It found a new home in Holland, and the restoration started almost before the van rolled of the trailer. We are exited to see how this one turnes out, and then we can cry and regret the sale. Good luck Martijn and Renee!

Somtimes the OutlaVWs got a life

When not hunting split, old buses or rare options the members also got a life beside. Two of the members, Oval55 and Oval57 went out in the hills somehwere in Norway searching for the (World famous) Grouse. This picture is only to show that we can do other tings than hunting old crap! Or is it crap? This winter will show if we are able to weld the crap into beauties?

..."I found again..."

As we know from the fairytales of Askeladden, he's not giving up his search so easy... And Oval 57 couldn't help it... AGAIN... Try to argue why he should throw it away, it most certainly will come in hand one day to own a piece of machinery like this =)
"It's not gold everything that shimmer, but it can be gold even though it's not shimmering..."
Can you spot the gold in this picture?

In the footsteps of "Askeladden"

"I found, I found said Askeladden"... "What are you going to do with that? Throw it away!" said the others and laughed... And probably would that have been the answer in this picture as well.
One wonders if some of the "Outlavws" is hanging in the same family tree as Askeladden. Risking to cut all family bonding, and the total respect among friends, oval 57 went away and purchased this dreamcar... What a found he said =) Not in a million years has he showed these pictures to his girlfriend. Some people love fairytales, that's what makes us Outlavws...

The cows are eaten up and the machinery moves in....

The good old time is past, and the future for an old "fjøs"/cowhouse is storing or car-garage?

In this case the cowhouse become a room for everything. Sand, eqipment for the garden, materials, and so on. After a few years the idea came up for storing my VW and a few more during the winter.

So, this pic shows how it was 2 years ago, and the pic under last nigth..... What do you prefer?

Christmas came early this year

It seems that some of the Outlavws has behaved well this year. It started earlier this summer, and we now thoght we had plenty of "brezel" for our coffe. Yesterday Father Christmas dropped another gift down the chimney, and there is defenitly not a lack of sweets for the garage-coffe anymore. Not every day you see a line-up of three split windows in the same garage, not by Norwegian standards that is. Even better, these are complete cars going drivable in resonable amount of time. Who said welding rust is boring.... Ever tried a tri-athlon?

Some like it hot

And we are of course not talking about naked ladies and sigars... We simply cut to the core of aircooled pornography. And we are so close to the core that some of the 6V Outlavws would loose at least one arm to get it... and that's pretty serious =) We are talking about transplanting new organs to the breathing system of a 25 HK engine. This piece of machinery is highly adored among the club members, and topping this engine whith the very rare, and very sexy "Express Kit", makes the hardest VW nut cry.... Take a look and try to hold back the tears... it really tells if you are a true VW nut =)

The mystery of "Paradise Road"

We all know "Paradise Road" from movies like American Grafitti. Sadly few of us lived in US during the fifthies and sixties and raced the local roads at night. As a true enthusiast, thats something you've always wanted to do... Why not create a Paradise Road of your own? That's exactly what Oval 55 and Oval 57 did in the spring of 2005. They posted the experience on www.vw2you.com as a thread in norwegian, but the pictures says it all:

"it's not how you stand by your car that matters, it's how you race your car"
(Fra "The fast and the furious")

The "Paradise Road" is now the offical arena for the 6V Outlavws to set the rank among the club members... Fürsten and Knechten has already something up their sleeve for the next shake down...

Cruuuising......

Here you see Oval57 cruising beside Ex-RubyRed. You can see his car shining in my polish....

The picture is taken the summer of 2006 cruising home from Mantorp.

In the early beginning

As mentioned before, it took a while to get the VW nuts organized. But when we finally did, we all came togheter for the first cruising with our own cars. Therfore it's fair to say that this picture show the first official cruise night of the 6V outlavws in the summer 05.
