Vintage speed in the Sechs volt garage

The "hard vintage speed-gang" were toghether last night for some serious talk. The agenda for the meeting was Old speed/Vintage speed. Hot Pizza, cold lemonade, VW-cookies and hot coffe in the countryside in a cowhouse. We had a great time talking, dreaming, laughing and kidding. The most of the possible available items for "souping the Volkswagen" were present; Judson, 356-engine, Express, Dietz, TDE, MAG, Retwish, Abarth (rare!), Italmeccanica
and some more.

SCC 2009 Movie release

The SCC 2009 movie is ready in the shop. The teaser may give you an idea of what to expect. There should be some Schwimmwagen action in this movie, captured in a quality never seen before. And we are talking 4(!) norwegian type 166 in the water at the same time. We have not seen it yet, but can't wait to get it in our mailbox... Don't hesitate, get yours now!! www.sccevent.com (shop)

Hammerworked

This saturday the Sechs volts with friends headed for Fredrikstad and the Norwegian Hammerworks shop. A few of us had been there before when they were working on Fürstens Split cab, and we also met up with these nice guys in Hessisch this summer, displaying Der Wiger Coupe fresh out the shop. So when we got an oportunity to visit Thomas and Gunnar, it was an offer we could not refuse. The two skilled fabricators showed us a lot of useful tips and tricks in metal shaping and not at least sharing hands-on experience with different tools. Surrounded by vintage hot rod objects and hand buildt motorcycles, the inspiration was everywhere. One thing that maybe surprised us the most, working on top notch american steel for a living, they each had a VW project going on their own... Maybe they got hooked on the Wiger project?
We had a fantastic time and will be in debt for life.... Thank you for taking the time (read: wasting your time on us)!!!
Norwegian Hammerworks also have a spanking new web site up and running, and we were lucky to attend the release party with Gunnars banana cake =) Check it out:
http://www.nhw.no/
And should you be in need of a helping hand on your vintage project, be sure to give them a call.

Winner of the restoration prize 2009

The Norwegian vintage VW club (founded 1966) has an annual prize for "best restoration". On this year's annual meeting our true Sechs volt-friend Erik Sitje was awarded the very sought after prize for his chestnut 52 split. Erik found this car in a forest, and used the next couple of years to restore it. He has told us stories about a tree growing through the wreck when found, and an incredible amount of work and detailing har been put into the project. Erik has a garage filled with several nice VWs, among a beach buggy built for his wife's 39th birthday. He has also been in touch with the 52 Capitan several times, and helped out with his skills at the Sechs Volt Garage. Congratulations!
(We may consider giving you a discount on a Sechs Volt mug after this...)

Cool blog rolls

Here are two blogs we stumbeled across on the internet. Right up the Sechs Volt alley, digging into vintage speed and the atmosphere surrounding it. Please visit here:

First time in Mantorp 1994

I wonder what the price would have been in 1994? I remeber that the speakergrill with clock costed 800 SEK. More pics on the Oval57-blog.

Looking back....

This was to big show-winners in the early 90`s and mid 90`s. Frode Algrøy with his very nice 58 with a lot of cool period-correct options. Frode still got this car, and some other high standard vintage VW-cars. You can go vistit Frode. One another prizewinner for the same period was Ulf Kaiser in his junglegreen 56 oval. We have not seen this car for a few years, but guess that Kaiser still got it, someone got any other tips about that? We can also mention Mr. Aandal and his 61 and 56 Karmann cab as great prizewinners in Norway. We know of both of this cars today. The 61 is in the West of Norway, and the cab is in its very best hands. Pictures is from Splitboys old album.

Sechs Volt IRL

Being part of the Sechs Volt Garage it's not unusual for us to get hazzled about our weak batteries and terrible orange headlights. But all myths are not true... This morning a MMS ticked in from Splitboy, parking his Cal looker outside his office just after 7 o'clock. Being in California this would be the most natural thing, but here in Norway the winter has set in and we have already seen the snow. With heavy rake, slippery wide tyres, no heating and a roaring 356 machine in the back, Splitboy hit the left lane to work this morning. Just to prove that Sechs Volt exists in real life too =) Even with a SIX volt battery(!!!!)

Der Wiger Coupe photoshoot

The latest Volksworld Magazine is about to reach the newsstands, and this time a fabulous photoshoot and article on the Wiger Coupe is inside. We heard about some "good" pictures beeing taken in Hessisch this summer, and this preview shows exactly how good they were. Congratulations to Øystein and Thomas at Norwegian Hammerworks for a cool article. Can't wait to see it in paper =)

Sechs volt in magazines

This months GATEBIL MAGAZINE and BILSPORT got some Sechs volt-stuff. The 52Capitan got a nice picture in the norwegian "GATEBIL", and the Express-engine got one picture in the Swedish "Bilsport" magazine. Sechs volt has been in magazines before, but not to often.

Worldwide-cup from Torstein

Our Sechs volt-friend Torstein aka "Gustav Petri" sent us this photo of the famous Sechs volt-mug. Torstein is a big collector of cool stuff for the early volkswagens, and he got a very nice collection at home. In the summer he drives his original 62DeLuxe with a lot of cool periodcorrect options. We know that he`s dreaming about a superoriginal split without roof or a 11G. When he got the right car it will be a very interesting ride with many of the accessories from his shelf.

The Old Speed Shack - OSS

I'm not sure why we have not told you about this blog before, because it has a lot of really cool stuff. Maybe we want to keep the good stuff to our selves? Chris, the man behind the OSS blog has been in touch with the Sechs volt on email on several occations. There is no doubt this is a dedicated man of the VW hobby, and he really has some cool stuff going on in the spirit of Old Speed. Please go and visit the blog and see all the cool stuff. And Chris, for the record, the Sechs Volts are located in Norway, not Finland ;-) *Knechten*

*Exclusive audition footage*

Earlier this year Oval 57 and Knechten auditioned for the "Pelle Politibil" movie with their belowed cars. Having experience from original-polizei work, they thought they would have shot at becoming movie stars. Before having their cars painted in black and white, they had to pass the first audition with a road test and a river test (as seen in the trailer). This footage is from the first stage of the road test. The river test was never caught on tape, because the cars never made it to the point of where the camera man was standing. Both cars are now drying out in a warm garage... In the edge of the picture you can also spot Fürsten trying out a statist role. Unfornately he did not make it eather, because the jury didn't believe the "puzzle" was a real beetle... Better luck next time for the Sechs Volt =)

The "Originalpolizei" goes animated?

No, it's not the Sechs volt "originalpolizei" this time. It's a new Norwegian animated cinema movie for children called "Pelle Politibil" coming to the cinemas in december this year, in Norway that is. At least the young generation of Sechs Volt prospects will enjoy this for years to come I'm sure. Knechten and Oval 57 auditioned for the Pelle Politibil movie earlier this autumn, but they chose to make it animated although we put in some effort to make it work with real cars. Unfornately our cars didn't do the river scene very well =) We will be back with some audition footage...

Sechs volt babe....

World Wide Mug

The Sechs Volt mugs are spreading around the world. This summer we met a couple of nice gentlemen in Hessisch Oldendorf (the other one is behind the camera). And of course we had to give these German guys a real coffe mug. Luckily they found the blog adress on the mug and contacted us. Turns out they have a blog of their own, and they seem to be very good at blogging cool stuff as well. Check it out here:

Chanses are we will see this guys again next time we visit a VW meeting in Germany. Nice to meet you!

blog.algroy.no strikes again

Once again Frode has posted some real nice pictures from the past. This time some very cool restoration pictures of his former barndoor panel van. He also managed to take som periodic correct pictures of the finished van in cool surroundings before parting with it. We have taken the liberty to post a favorite picture with a clear message; You don't mess with the VW originalpolizei driving an english wannabe sportscar... Here is a link to the blog translated to english, with modern google language technology, a lot of cool stuff to be found here:

Norwegain readers will find the link on the right hand side menu.

Sechs volt expanding

The Sechs Volt Garage has for a long time been a free space for some middle aged gentlemen. Here they gather once in while to rest from their stressful everyday life and fiddle around with old VW's. The male-spa has now got a new facility for the coming season. A new "silence room"has arrived, often found in modern office facilities, a small room where you can kick back and relax in total silence. In the picture you see the view from the lounge sofa. We hope this will give some extra energy to upcoming projects this winter. Just take a deep breath and start dreaming... More info to be found on Knechtens own blog, the man behind the idea of the silence cabinet =)

How FAR would YOU go?

After seeing a mindblowing split convertible last night (not related to this posting at all), it brought back a memory from the past. At some point when Fürsten was tracking down the 51 cab now resting in the sechs volt garage, we asked a hypothetical question among the sechs volt members; How FAR would you go, to get one? Based on a theory that VW is a quite male-dominated hobby, that the male statisticly pulls in the paddles before the females, AND if you were lucky enough to track a split cab down. There would be a fair chance of it being testamented to a spouse (statisticly again). And as we know from experience, NOTHING is for sale. So the real question is; How far beyond "second base" would you go to get the current owners signature on the pinkslip?

(We have a theory that the answer to this question is how the Screwdrivers got their #numbers, just hypothetical)

Diamonds are forever

The Sechs Volt had picked up some rumors that a true "phenomenon" in the norwegian VW scene was about to surface again, after years of storage. The car was covered by an article in a norwegian car magazine, before it disappeared from the VW scene due to tragic circumstances. Now many years later, the car has found a new owner, who will without doubt, treat it with the respect it deserves. We were lucky to get ourselves an invitation to the new garage to check out this car in the flesh. Toghether with Gustav "Pealit" Petri we spent a whole evening in Kims garage studying this beauty. WHAT A CAR!! This one is restored in every detail, and taken into considiration restoration was started over 20 years ago, it's really impressive. Today we have everything at hand through the internet, in the nineties you had to GO to Germany or other places to source parts. Repro parts available today, had to be made one-off on this car. We hope to see a lot more of this car at next summers gatherings, looking better than ever.... Someone also mentioned Bad Camberg 2011, we really look foreward to that!! Thanks Kim, we are still drooling (and thats not the coffes fault)...

The story continues...

For those who have not seen this thread on TheSamba.com yet, here is the link one more time:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=378245&start=0
This must be the absolute coolest barnfind in a long time. I really like the look of the car after it was modified from a full on race car to a road legal sports car. I fully understand the choice of building it back to race specs now, but there would be interesting to make a replica of the street version as well. A real beauty! Will be back at Prototyp to see this in the flesh at some point...

Back to nature

Before the snow starts covering all old metal here in the Norwegian forrests, we grabbed the opportunity to go treasure hunting. This time we found the remains of two beetles. Probably a 51 and a 54 beetle. At the same place we also found some english crap and a german Ford with a Golde sunroof.

Just truly amazing

This Rometch-Porsche race car was found in storage earlier this year. Can you imagine the heart rate seeing this dusty piece of vintage race histoy in the dark storage room? Car has now ended up at http://www.prototyp-hamburg.de/ for restoration. See some moe info here, posted by Splitpersonality: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=378245

My gilfriends VW-bag

This is what she got from me in end of the summer. This bag is made of VW-fabric all over as you can see. On the inside is it headliner from VW also. My mother-in-law did make it, I did only buy the fabric:) She use it, and like it pretty much! She has also got some VW-ear-rings and the VW-bus jewellery by Thomas Sabo.

Vintage photo

Open up this photo in full resolution... It's a barndoor pick up isn't it? And a split, rag tops and lot of atmosphere. I guess the pick up is not doing 80 km/h up that hill ;-)

Painting a split

What happens? Is`nt every split in the Sechs volt garage painted already? Is it a new project? It seems to be a nice color:) The owner must tell for him self.

The 52 Capitan

Just a photoshoot of the 52 Capitan before the winter.

Screwdrivers blog

The Sechs Volts biggest rivals on the norwegian VW scene, the "Screwdrivers", has entered the world wide web. On several occations during the summer season, we bump into these hardcore enthusiasts. They tend to show up at every VW gathering there is, and so does the Sechs Volt. Not seldom does it all turn into a fierce battle when these rivals meet. It never involves any fist fights, but it all goes down verbally. We usually cope with their southern division, but when things start to get ugly, they always bring in the northern division from Troendelag. We always turn out a size to small, as farmer talk from the prairie can't measure up against the sodd talk from the north... Now it's time to see if they blog as good as they small-talk.

They have some really impressive projects going on for sure, check out Runes barndoor project and lots of other great stuff =)

Crazy-award at SCC 2009

Our true Sechs volt-friend Morten Lund got the Crazy-award because he did fish a 1957-model Samba from the bottom of a Norwegian lake. Who else could get that award:)
Here you can follow the progress on Mortens samba:
